Broome County Child Advocacy Center
The Broome County Child Advocacy Center opened in July 1997. As of December 2007, 1,517 children have come through its doors. That is by no means all children reported to be victims of sexual abuse during this period of time. An estimated 250-300 children are reported annually to be victims of child sexual abuse in Broome County alone. Some of the Center’s goals are to provide a safe, child friendly, controlled setting for the investigative interview and reduce the ‘system trauma’ that can accompany these cases.
Chemung County Child Advocacy Center
Chemung County Child Advocacy Center makes it possible for a child to go to one location and talk about their abuse. The Center seamlessly integrates and coordinates the services of all of agencies involved in abuse cases: Forensic interviews, medical evaluations, mental health referrals, victim advocacy and support, case review and tracking, information and referral, and community outreach and education.
Oneida County Child Advocacy Center
The CAC handles investigations of child sexual abuse in which the victim is under 17 years of age. The Oneida County CAC initiates approximately 500 investigations each year. Where evidence warrants, criminal arrests are made and or Family Court Petitions are filed. Some of CAC’s goals are to reduce the trauma to child victims during the investigative and court processes and also gather better evidence to pursue criminal indictments and prosecutions.
