SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- As people downstate continue to pick up the pieces from Superstorm Sandy, local groups have come together to pitch in any way they can. Operation Sandy Relief was organized by Central New Yorkers.
Members have been making trips down to the hardest hit areas, bringing much-needed supplies. On Saturday, they even organized a big cookout for the Rockaway Beach community.
"One of the guys who started this was born and raised in this area. His family lost property here, so he decided to basically start a little thing just to fill his Jeep come down here, and in one day it turned into a truckload," said Brian Borchik, Syracuse resident. "So, we've already had one truckload come down here, and now we've got all this. Six vehicles came down, and I think about 30 people are meeting us here."
