DELAWARE COUNTY, N.Y. -- Authorities remained quiet about the details surrounding the deaths of Willis and Wendy Brown Thursday. The couple was found shot inside their Main Street home in Franklin Wednesday.
"We received a call around 6:45 yesterday morning and we were on the scene in about a five minute response time and at this point, the investigation is pointing to an apparent murder-suicide," said Delaware County Undersheriff Craig DuMond.
Neighbors in Franklin say the Browns seemed like a very nice, normal couple. They have two college-aged children. Wendy worked as a financial adviser. Willis was an assistant professor of applied sciences and building technologies at SUNY Delhi. School officials are taking efforts to help students and staff.
"The college has taken extraordinary efforts since yesterday morning to provide counseling efforts to deal with this very tragic incident," said SUNY Delhi Provost John Nader.
Still, students on campus say there is a sense of disbelief that an incident like this happened between the professor and his wife.
"A lot of people in A-Tech are shock. I had a kid in my math class who was his advisor, so he was really shocked," said SUNY Delhi Freshman Kevin French.
" I guess you don't know what happens at home, in school you think everyone's fine but you don't really know what's going on there," said SUNY Delhi Freshman Joe Hernandez.
"Everybody is talking about it. They are getting through it. The teachers are very upset, it’s a very close office over there, everybody knew each other and was friends," said SUNY Delhi freshman Kevin Ekelund.
Emotions that seem to be shared by the entire community and everyone who knew the couple.
Autopsies on both bodies are being conducted at Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton. More details could be released once they are completed.
