ST. LAWRENCE COUNTY, N.Y. -- A day after losing the 21st Congressional race, Green Party candidate Donald Hassig is now in trouble with the law. Hassig was arrested Wednesday morning and charged with stalking the county's public health director, Dr. Susan Hathaway.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies say the allegations were over a long period of time, dating back to 2010.

Hassig was arraigned in Canton Town Court Wednesday and has been ordered to stay away from Hathaway.

In Tuesday's election, he only garnered about one percent of the vote, but long before the election he had lost the endorsement of his own party. The New York State Green Party denounced him for what they call "disturbing and reprehensible" comments made during a debate in St. Lawrence County. There, he called for foreign workers on farms in the North Country to be rounded up and deported. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
