The board of education in Baldwinsville was to suppose to decide the fate of one school Monday night. Members were going to vote whether or not they would close Van Buren Elementary. However, that did not happen. Iris St. Meran has more.

BALDWINSVILLE, N.Y. -- Parents in Baldwinsville will have to wait a little longer to get a decision on whether Van Buren Elementary School will be closed.

The school board was supposed to vote on the proposal Monday night, but ultimately decided there were too many unanswered questions. Among their concerns were what would happen with special education students and if there would be all day kindergarten.

During a public comment session, parents were also able to voice their worries.

"This isn't just about a budget line item. It isn't just about saving $1.2 million from the Baldwinsville School District's budget. This is about people, this is about children's lives, it's about children's education," said Wendy Van Der Water.

Greg McCrem said, "Neighborhood schools are good for kids. And closing a neighborhood school in Baldwinsville is going to hurt certainly the folks in Van Buren, but it's going to have a negative effect on all of the kids in the district and it would have a negative effect on my son's class size here at Elden."

The next school board meeting is Monday, October 1st. The school board president says a vote at that time is likely, but is not a guarantee.

Their goal is to have a decision as early as possible.
