Memorial services remembering 9/11 will happen all across our region and country on Tuesday. But the Town of DeWitt will not have its annual service at the town hall. It's a decision that has at least one local resident upset. Iris St. Meran has more.

DEWITT, N.Y. -- After a decade of recognition, the Town of DeWitt will not be holding a 9/11 remembrance ceremony on Tuesday.

The town supervisor says in the past, they had a 9/11 committee that organized the memorial every year. It included the fire and police departments, among other groups. He says back in 2002, the committee signed on to coordinate the event for ten years and now they've decided to take a break.

It was a decision that did not sit well with some neighbors.

"This year, the fact that apparently there is not going to be anything has been very disheartening for me. I feel very sad about it," said Elaine Lostumbo, an East Syracuse resident.

The town supervisor says anyone is welcome to pay their respects at the memorial at DeWitt town hall on Tuesday, or any day of the year for that matter. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
