WATERTOWN, N.Y. -- Former 10th Mountain Division Commander and newly appointed Army Vice Chief of Staff, General Lloyd Austin III, will be in Watertown Friday.

Austin will take part in the annual Community Covenant Ceremony. The event at the Salmon Run Mall serves as a reminder of the community's support for Fort Drum and the soldiers stationed there.

Austin commanded Fort Drum from September 2003 to August 2005. He was promoted to Vice Chief of Staff after commanding the U.S. Forces in 2010 and 2011.

And earlier this week, another former 10th Mountain Commander was given a new command. Lieutenant General James Terry was appointed head of NATO forces in Afghanistan and will lead the International Security Assistance Force Joint Command.

Terry was 10th Mountain Division Commander from 2009 until 2011. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
