A community prepares to say goodbye to a courageous Marine from Ithaca killed in the line of duty. The funeral service for Corporal Christopher Bordoni, 21, will take place today at the Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca. Bordoni was injured by a suicide bomber attack in Afghanistan in January and died from his injuries last week. Our Brad Vivacqua has the details.

ITHACA, N.Y. -- At least a few thousand people are expected in Ithaca this morning to pay respect to a local Marine who put his life on the line to protect others. Corporal Chris Bordoni was born and raised in Ithaca, and today family, friends, and acquaintances will say their final goodbyes.

On Wednesday, a long line of supporters could be seen at calling hours at the Immaculate Conception Church. The wake was strongly attended by people from across the region, including the Patriot Guard riders and other public officials.

Bordoni was a well-decorated Marine and received a number of honors including the Purple Heart. He was serving his second tour of duty and was scheduled to return home in February. Bordoni has always been well respected within the community and it came to no surprise to see the outpouring support.

"Everybody regardless of political party, religious affiliation, regardless of where they live, where they're from, it's just been nothing but an outpouring support. As we've lowered the flags here at half mast all week to honor Corporal Bordoni, and we've seen nothing but an outpouring of support," said Ithaca Mayor Svante Myrick.

Bordoni is survived by a wife, his parents, and a brother and a sister.

His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception. The service will be followed by a private burial at Calvary Cemetery with full Marine honors.
