WHITNEY POINT, N.Y. -- Slippery road conditions cause a tractor trailer to run into a state police patrol car on Route 81, injuring a trooper.

It happened just after 2 p.m. Saturday on the southbound lane of 81 in Whitney Point, right next to the rest stop.

A New York State Police officer was pulled over on the shoulder of the road with his lights on, investigators said the driver of the tractor trailer lost control as he tried to slow down and the trailer hit the car, knocking it into the median. The trooper was taken to Wilson Hospital with minor injuries.

Police said it's a good reminder to pay attention during uncertain weather.

Lt. Robert Croswell, of NYSP Binghamton said, “When you're out and the visibility is low and the roads are slippery, when you think you've slowed down enough, slow down some more."

The accident remains under investigation. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
