SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- A youth group in Syracuse is focused on showing kids that success can be achieved by anyone.
The group Team ANGEL, which stands for Avoid Negative Garbage Enjoy Life, was started by Eddie Mitchell Jr. and Ryedell Davis. The two say they saw too many of their friends die because of violence and wanted to show Syracuse children there is another option.
Team ANGEL hosts trips, group activities and most importantly provides a safe space for kids to express their thoughts with mentors who aren't much older than some of them and have experienced much of the same things.
"They come up with topics that they would like to talk about. It stems from sexual education, to relationships, to school, to teachers to anything that has to do with their lives, because a lot of them don't have individuals that they can actually talk to," said Davis.
Team ANGEL serves as a liaison between students and staff at Corcoran High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and hosts activities at the Southwest Community Center from 3 to 8 p.m. during the week.
