CENTRAL NEW YORK -- This is a great time of year to help a worthy cause, and this week we're particularly reminded of that.

The United Way of Central New York helps fund the hot meal program at the Samaritan Center which serves more than 100,000 meals each year. Much of that food comes by way of the Food Bank of Central New York.

Catholic Charities is also getting help from the United Way as the non-profit helps the homeless with shelter and other programs. Working together allows these agencies to fully serve everyone in need.

“We can all together form a tapestry where we can weave together these services that truly can make a difference in people's lives," said Julie Gilbert, Samaritan Center referral specialist.

"We communicate about the needs of our program participants. And, by doing that we're able to offer a lot more assistance to a lot more people,” said Catholic Charities program director Jim Taylor.

If you would like to consider making a donation to any one of these agencies, officials say your contribution will help in a big way.
