Midnight madness packs The Carrier Dome with S-U basketball fans. YNN's Erin Clarke was there to take in some of the action and tells us why fans were especially excited about this year's event.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Orange faithful from near and far packed the Carrier Dome for Midnight Madness.
The event introduces fans to the Men's and Women's Basketball Teams. Two programs, coming off 20-win campaigns, postseason appearances, and the men ranked top 5 in some preseason polls.
"I just love the game, love the sport. S.U.'s got an awesome basketball team. I don't know, superstars, they're all superstars," said Andy Lescenski.
It also gives the players a chance to show off some of their skills and rub shoulders with former S.U. greats
Fans to this year's Midnight Madness may be in for an added treat. With the NBA lockout still going on, those fans are expecting to see some players who might not have showed up otherwise.
"Hopefully I see Jermaine O'Neal, that's my boo, but I hope I see Carmelo Anthony and Wes Johnson," said Francesca Ogletree.
Some of those guys did show up and took to the court for the much anticipated legends scrimmage.
The excitement kicks off the 2011/ 2010 Basketball season and the 36th for Men's Head Coach Jim Boeheim.
Midnight Madness was a free event, but fans had to get a ticket to get into the Dome. As of early Friday morning those tickets were sold out.
