SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Making Strides is an annual walk in Syracuse to honor survivors of breast cancer. About 7,000 walkers are expected to join in the event Sunday morning in Clinton Square.

It all begins with walkers crossing a pink line painted along the walkway at the square. Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney and Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner joined with officials from the American Cancer Society to paint the line today and urge a big turnout this weekend.

“Making Strides is more than just a word. It's a whole group of people that have come together to fight for, as you said, people we all know and love in our own lives,” said Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney.

The annual Making Strides walks across the nation have helped to raise close to $400 million to aid in cancer research.
