It was a big win at the Dome for the Syracuse University football team. The Orange beat Wake Forest in their home opener on Thursday. Our Candace Hopkins caught up with fans who say this year, the expectations are high.
SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Excitement filled the Dome Thursday night, as the Orange took on Wake Forest, for the first game in their highly-anticipated season.
Senior Tara Baron said, "I've been coming to the games throughout, through the good and the bad, and you know, we keep getting better, so hopefully this will be our best year since I've been around."
The team finished strong last year with a win over Kansas State in the Pinstripe Bowl, leaving many fans impatient to see them get back on the field.
Fan Joe Labella said, "This might be a turnaround year, so we're gonna go to another bowl game this year. We may not win the Big East. We'll go to another bowl game, but next year, man, look out for the Orange, because we're back. We're back. The Orange is back".
Before the game, one fan showed off his team pride in song.
And for the thousands of dedicated orange fans, there is little that can stand in their way when journeying to the dome.
Labella said, "I moved to Florida in 1991, and I've kept my season tickets since then, and I come home for every single home game, and I've only missed five home games in 20 years because I've usually been chased away by hurricanes, and so thank God Irene isn't here this weekend."
SU beat Wake Forest in overtime, 36-29. With six more home games on SU's schedule, the party is just beginning.
