OSWEGO, N.Y. -- Officers from the Oswego Coast Guard are preparing for what could be a busy holiday weekend on Lake Ontario.

The Coast Guard will be out patrolling the lake and will be on the lookout for safety and alcohol violations. Many boaters will be hitting the water for the first time since last season and they say their main concern is making sure everyone is properly prepared.

"With everyone putting their boats in the water this year, with a possible increase in boating traffic this weekend, we're gonna be looking for lights, making sure people's lights on their boat work, making sure people aren't forgetting to put their boat plugs in, make sure boaters obviously have all their safety gear," said Jadon Sprague, Coast Guard Executive Petty Officer.
