BRIDGEWATER, N.Y. -- Much-needed equipment, better service and new jobs are on their way to a Bridgewater meat processing and inspection plant thanks to state grant funds.

New York Custom Processing was awarded more than $200,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds. The plant is USDA approved to slaughter and process a variety of meats.

Officials say the creation of 14 jobs will be a boost to the Bridgewater area and mean more convenience to local farmers in need of processing services.

"There was definitely a need in this area for a place like this to open up under USDA inspection. They were hauling their animals quite a ways away and there's a lot of farms around here. But a need was there and we saw the need," said plant manager Scott Agostino.

Managers say they plan to hire locally for the new jobs that will range from cleaning positions to those who will help process and pack cuts of meat. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
