LIVERPOOL, N.Y. -- As Japan begins a slow recovery process following the massive earthquake and tsunami there many Americans are looking for ways to help out. Wegmans is making that easier for its customers. All 77 of the company's grocery stores will accept donations from customers at the checkout. 100 percent of the donations will go to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for Japan Earthquake and Pacific Tsunami. The fund helps pay for relief supplies and other needs.

Wegmans officials say they wanted to do what they can to help because of the company's many ties to the country.

"It's obviously a traumatic situation for Japan. We have customers who have family and friends in Japan, our employees have family and friends in Japan we have suppliers from Japan so we really want to do what we can to try and help support that situation," said Wegmans Community Relations Director Evelyn Carter.

Wegmans will be collecting money through April 2 and the company will also be making its own donation of $100,000. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
