CHITTENANGO, N.Y. -- Much-needed construction is now underway on a church in Chittenango. The Evangel Community Church was condemned after a microburst hit the area back in June, causing the ceiling to crack and the front brick wall to shift.

On Tuesday, crews were busy getting to work on the church. And the first thing on the to-do list was straightening out the wall.

The work will take an estimated three to five weeks to complete and insurance will cover all the costs.

The church pastor says he is just happy no one was hurt that day and the whole process has actually been a good experience.

"It's not about rebuilding that wall, it's about going through the journey together and getting the church fixed, but yet developing friendships and developing character and working alongside one another and really showing good work ethic and that's what was more important than fixing the church," said Jeff Heidt, Evangel Community Church Pastor.

A rededication ceremony will be held when construction is complete.
