A drug bust in the Village of Potsdam has lead to the arrest of four people, but it was just the beginning in what turned out to be a county-wide sweep. Our Rachael Paradis has the details on this eight-month long investigation.

POTSDAM, N.Y. -- Fourteen individuals across St. Lawrence County were arrested on feloN.Y. drug charges after a county-wide drug bust. All of them face charges for selling drugs. Among the most common are cocaine, marijuana and oxycodone, with over nine pounds of marijuana found so far.

"It's been going on for several months and it ties back into numerous different investigations and it's a result of the efforts of a lot of agencies working in a cooperative effort," said Sheriff Kevin Wells of St. Lawrence County.

Austin Cardona, Jehrod Hall, Melissa Laffin and Chad Pickering, ranging in age from 22 to 29, are just four out of the 14 individuals arrested throughout the county. They were all taken into custody in the Village of Potsdam early Thursday morning. The other arrests spanned from Potsdam to Massena, Canton and maN.Y. other smaller towns.

"We're all out there working very hard to arrest those people that are selling drugs to our children making non-tax profit money off our communities and we're going to continue to work hard," said Wells.

Wells says that it is vital to get these drugs off the streets and out of the community and he has one message for those who are involved.

"More arrests are coming and so aN.Y.body in the world out there in the county that think that they're safe from being investigated for their illegal activity just be aware that you may be picked up in the next couple of days," Wells said.
