OSWEGO, N.Y. -- The City of Oswego is going ahead with plans to demolish some old buildings in the city.

At Monday night's Common Council meeting, the code enforcement officer suggested the city demolish a building on West Fifth Street, as well as another building on East First Street. The buildings have been vacant for years and one of them was recently vandalized.

The collapse of the former St. Louis Church last weekend forced the city to look at demolishing these other buildings in the interest of safety.

"It prompted us to look at the problem buildings in the city in a different light. At least to emphasize that maybe another look should be taken to make sure there weren't any other problems with them that would endanger the public," said code enforcement director Neal Smith.

The mayor's office will head up plans to demolish both buildings. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
