AUBURN, N.Y. -- The idea was to turn children on to new careers in technology, but having a couple of race cars nearby doesn't hurt.

The son of the owner of Currier Plastics in Auburn is a race car driver and made sure children from the second grade at Herman Avenue School got a close up look at the vehicles he drives.

At the same time, though, the youngsters toured the plant itself. The goal is to get them interested in some of the technology that drives modern industry.

"We have automation, we have robots, we have CAD design, modeling software, that we try to encourage all the kids to learn more about and to consider that, as future careers," said Elizabeth Roberts of Currier Plastics.

The program has helped to get young children thinking about working with new technology.
