The Ixtapan Spa Hotel and Resort is a Mexican spa that is therapy for your body, soul and wallet. Our Valarie D'Elia filed the following report.

The 75-year-old Ixtapan Spa Hotel and Resort in the foothills of the Sierra Madres, a couple hours southwest of Mexico City, is showing its age, and that's just how its loyal clientele likes it.

"I'm a little dated, too, so I think that we really enjoy each other very much," says one visitor.

In fact, there are so many repeaters that there's a wall of fame.

On a recent media visit, I ran into a group of gals from the 92nd Street Y who enjoy the irony of over-indulgence.

"How many massages do I need? It's like an everyday massage," says one.

Over the span of a seven-night package, guests can overdose on a total of 26 classes and 15 treatments.

"I didn't know from loofah fango or a couple of other things," says one person.

The big appeal of Ixtapan Spa is the price tag, which is around $215 per night for a week's stay, based on double occupancy with three meals included. Tips, taxes and transfers are extra.

"It makes it, or puts it, in the value-oriented category," says Roberto San Roman, president of Ixtapan Spa.

For those who want more "luxe," there's the holistic spa, where guests can trade up for longer, more specialized treatments.

To keep up, the resort is re-inventing itself, with a stunning new yoga pavilion and an ongoing renovation of the rooms and villas, all with Wi-Fi. A new gym will replace a tired one.

One thing you won't find within the confines of the gated property is air conditioning, because the mountain climate is usually dry and comfortable. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
