This mobile app will soon get a feature that could make it the must-have for anyone who runs regularly on a treadmill.
First though, what the app does now, which could also make it a must-have. It’s called Paofit. You stick your iPhone or iPad right up there on any treadmill, and it’ll let you run either alone, with friends, or even with strangers virtually through exotic locations.
“We can track your vibration. Every time you hit that tread, you create a vibration and, basically, it’s a pedometer. If you’re logged on you have a user and you're live. People around the world will see you that are in that route and you can also make arrangements and meet with friends or buddies, and it doesn’t matter where they are. You can be on the treadmills next to each other or you can be anywhere in the world—it makes no difference," says Paofit's Marc Hardy.
The app will also work directly with LifeFitness treadmills so that if you connect your mobile device, the treadmill will even change elevation automatically depending on what you’re seeing. That feature that’s going to excite hardcore marathon runners.
Starting with the 2015 London Marathon, you’ll be able to run events live.
In other words, when they running in London at the London Marathon you can run virtually right alongside with them on your treadmill whether you happen to be in New York or Tokyo.
“You’re going to be able to live-enter it officially, digitally from anywhere in the world using our app and you’re going to see the real thing with all the crowds and you’re going to be able to run it live," Hardy says.
Paofit is a free download for iOS devices. That free download will get you little bits of running environments that’ll be looped.
To unlock full routes, you will have to make in-app purchases for them, anywhere from around $2-$6, depending on the locale.
