SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Golfers spent a cold, snowy morning in Syracuse's Thornden Park on Saturday but they weren't hitting the links.

The Central New York Disc Golf Association held an Ice Bowl tournament to benefit the Salvation Army Food Bank. Nearly 50 players made their way around a temporary course set up at the park.

And though conditions may not seem ideal, organizers say it's the love of the game, and helping the community, that brings them out.

Greg Meitus, CNY Disc Golf Assoc. Board Member said, “We are diehards. We love the sport. We can't get enough of it. Of course we'd all rather be in shorts and t-shirts, but we enjoy playing throughout the year."

Organizers expect to raise about $800 and about 50 pounds of food for the Salvation Army. ClientIP:, UserAgent: CCBot/2.0 ( Profile: TWCSAMLSP
