WHITESBORO, N.Y. - Some of the top curlers from the United States and Canada are in Whitesboro this weekend competing in the Mitchell Invitational Bonspiel.
The tournament has been held at the Utica Curling Club for over 75 years.
Teams are playing for a medal created by tournament founder Alexander Mitchell, a former patron with the Grand National Curling Club.
Curlers say they enjoy this tournament, because it keeps with the old Scottish traditions of the sport, and brings out some of the best area competitors.
"This is not a big money event, some of the teams however are certainly of the quality they could play in a big cash event. And the other thing is the tradition associated with this event, that's really great," said Stu Card, a curler in the tournament.
The tournament runs through Sunday evening.
The public is invited and encouraged to come watch.
